Sea kayaking and surfing

Kayaking along the coast

The coastline around Rosenvold Strand Camping is ideal for day trips by kayak. Here you’ll find some of Denmark’s most beautiful coastal nature with calm bays, dramatic cliffs and small, undisturbed beaches like something out of a Robinson Crusoe story.

If you paddle west into Vejle Fjord, the undulating moraine landscape rises with cliffs up to 20 meters high and forms an impressive backdrop for coastal kayaking. Depending on how far you paddle, you may pass the beautiful Vejlefjord Hotel – and perhaps all the way to Træskohage Lighthouse.

If you choose to paddle east instead, you’ll quickly pass the historic Rosenvold Castle and soon the landscape opens up towards the Kattegat. Here the forest grows almost all the way to the sea, creating a sculptural stretch of coastline where crooked tree trunks reach out over the water.

After about 5 km you’ll reach Stenhøj Strand, where there are several shelters with a fantastic view towards Funen. Close by – just a short walk from the water – you’ll find Staksevold Røverborg, a great place to take a break and enjoy your packed lunch in the peace and quiet of the forest.

On sunny days, the waters of the fjord turn almost turquoise thanks to the clayey coastal landscape – a color reminiscent of southern climes.

Kite & windsurfing

Rosenvold Strand Camping is located right on the water at the mouth of Vejle Fjord, making the area ideal for both kite and windsurfing. The beach right in front of the campsite and the area east of Rosenvold Harbor are ideal for rigging equipment.

The bay next to the campsite offers excellent conditions for surfers – especially when the wind comes from northwest to southeast. On windy days, the wind creates small and medium-sized waves that provide perfect bump & jump conditions for more experienced surfers. Freeriders and racers also benefit from the extra wind pushed through the fjord from the west.

When the wind dies down, the bay transforms into a calm area perfect for SUP (stand up paddle). The shoreline on both sides of the site is also great for both short and longer trips – whether you’re a beginner or experienced on the board.
